What is EMG, and how does it power the band?

EMG stands for electromyography, which are the signals that come from your brain in order to produce specific muscle movements. These muscle movements are read at the wrist through sensors in the band to replicate actions such as making selections, control volume, send messages, and more.

My Contributions to the Band

During my time at Meta, I have worked with over 1,500 participants to develop the machine learning AI models that power this band.

I have observed participant behavior and reported any difficulties with gestures as well as study design to improve the overall user experience with the band.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Each day at Meta, I supervise data collection for a number of participants (up to 23 per day, and over 1,500 during my tenure) to observe behaviors and mitigate difficulties with performing gestures.

Just one a few of the protocols I have worked on studies EMG handwriting. EMG handwriting recognizes a large number of different ways that people may write different letters of the alphabet. It is crucial to collect large amounts of data so that the AI models are appropriately trained to recognize the infinite possibilities of how people may write a letter.
